Fight Hypertension

With the changes in the life style of people, more and more are falling victims to diseases like hypertension, diabetics etc. Hypertension, which is also known as High Blood Pressure is on the rise these days. Treatment for hypertension include following a healthy life style along with medication. Losing weight, rigorous exercises, cutting back on salt etc can go a long way in reducing blood pressure. Dietary changes like following a healthy eating plan that emphasizes fruits, vegetables, low fat dairy foods and consuming less alcohol are also recommended. While following a healthy life style works wonders for many, some may require medications such as diuretics.

There are various kinds of medication and each works in a slightly different manner. Your reaction to the medications can also vary. So the doctor may try a few different medications before he prescribes the best one for you. It is also equally important to continue the medicine until the doctor tells you to stop. You may have the tendency to stop the medicine when you feel better.

Several antihypertensive drugs are available to lower the blood pressure. In some cases, it is found that a combination of drugs works better than a single medication. The common drugs used to manage hypertension include Beta blockers, Diuretics, Calcium channel blockers, Alpha blockers, Nervous system inhibitors, Vasodilators etc.

Whatever may be the treatment methods, it is necessary to keep blood pressure under control as Hypertension can lead to heart attack, congestive heart failure, kidney disease or stroke.
