Hypertension, most commonly referred to as "high blood pressure", HTN or HPN, is a medical condition in which the blood pressure is chronically elevated. It was previously referred to as arterial hypertension, but in current usage, the word "hypertension" without a qualifier normally refers to arterial hypertension.

White Coat Syndrome and Hypertension

I heard from a friend not long ago describing her spouse's predicament with pressure readings. When he takes the reading at home it is somewhere between normal and slightly elevated, but at the doctor's office it reads high. My friend wondered this way. By seeing the doctor her husband's pressure was raising. But her husband thought he was not very much nervous by seeing the doctor. But he did admit that he could been subconsciously affected. This kind of problem is called white coat syndrome Even though it shows normal at home. 10 to 20 percent of adult population is affected by this. In doctor's office or even in office settings a person's pressure may rise.

Blood pressure may differ when using a pressure cuff that is very small and that results in a high pressure read. At time the nurses and other medical professionals make take incorrect reading. The question to pose oneself is: Does this syndrome create a health risk? The answer is - yes. While the risk of an event is lower than with chronic high blood pressure, it's risk is higher than normal. The very important thing that everybody should know when is the pressure increasing and how long each time it tend to happens.

It is not an issue when the pressure increases only when visiting doctors clinic and only for a few minutes. But if a person experience this problem many times a day then it may lead to chronic high blood pressure. People sometimes just assume that they are suffering from White Coat syndrome when they in fact are not. In fact most of us would prefer to suffer from an annoying problem rather than dangerous health problem like chronic hypertension. To determine what condition you are in fact suffering from, I strongly recommend that you see your doctor. Regardless of the outcome, I believe my all natural High Blood Pressure program will help you. The success of this program has been amazing - it really works!
