Hypertension, most commonly referred to as "high blood pressure", HTN or HPN, is a medical condition in which the blood pressure is chronically elevated. Hypertension - The Relationship With Aspirin

Hypertension is a condition that currently affects many men and women, particularly as they age. Quite frequently following diagnosis by a physician, a person with this condition will be instructed to take a daily dosage of low dose aspirin. This type of medication has been used for some time now for people at risk for heart disease or a heart attack. That is because hypertension has been linked to an increased risk of stroke and heart attack. There has been updated research on the efficacy of aspirin for the treatment of this condition and some possible caveats regarding the timing of the dosage.

While it has been thought for some time that aspirin lowered blood pressure, there seems to be some evidence emerging that it actually increases the risk of onset hypertension, particularly in men. Those taking that kind of prescription in a similar frequency had a 26% increase in the incidence of high blood pressure. Another study done in Spain, testing people with pre-hypertension showed that the pills taken in the evening was more effective in lowering the blood pressure than when it was taken in the morning. It would appear that a person's circadian rhythms should be considered when using aspirin as a treatment for any stage of this illness.

The new information would suggest that more consideration should be given regarding the use of painkillers for the treatment of high blood pressure. It may be putting people at risk for a bigger problem down the road. Perhaps other options should be considered as the first line of defense before taking these over the counter pain medication products.

In a studied supported by the American Heart Association, results were shown that supported the theory that these pain medications caused a rise in blood pressure. The study was done using males with the average age of 64.6 without any history of hypertension. Four years later when the subjects were retested there was a significant increase in the incidence of high blood pressure. Daily, or near daily use of aspirin and other non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs raised blood pressure in a significant number of participants. The incidence was actually higher in those with lower body weight index than for those with a higher index.

Warnings have been placed on many products by the FDA since early 2005 suggesting that they increase the risk of cardiovascular problems when used on a regular basis. Aspirin, however, was not included in this warning as it was considered to be of benefit to those with a risk for heart disease. Research has now shown that this may not be the case after all. There may be cause to reconsider all painkillers as studies reveal their likelihood of increasing the risk of hypertension in those who take these medications regularly.

More studies are needed to confirm these results, but perhaps we should also begin to look more closely at the medical problems that are being treated with these products, rather than simply treating the symptoms.

First we need to understand that there is no particular reason why the blood pressure rises, there is no "thing", but it is related to the way of life. This means that instead of one of the reasons there are a lot of reasons, the blood pressure rise, and each and every individual could have different things, habits, causes and reasons in their lives, together, are the root of the disease .

What medicine does is that it directly affects the cardiovascular system. It creates in the blood vessel dilation rule. This means that the blood vessels expand, which have a direct influence on blood pressure, but if the patient stops the medication, the blood vessels tend to narrow again, and thus the blood pressure to rise again. Dilatation of blood vessels can have side effects because your body to do something, it will not on its own.

As far as the natural way of doing is that they refer to the whole body. The benefit is more on the general side, by the body to heal itself, rather than forcing them to do it.

How to Easily Lower Your Blood Pressure Without Medication

We all know of the risks that high blood pressure, also called hypertension, carries. It is one of the major risk factors for heart attacks and strokes. In the beginning you seldom notice any symptoms or immediate problems. However, if you do not take action, it just gets worse and worse. And one day, you could have a serious health problem. For this reason some people call hypertension the silent killer.

The standard response to hypertension is medication. But for a lot of people, medication will not solve the problem. Just relying on drugs, without changing your life style very often means that your blood pressure starts rising again after a while. You get stronger medication which lowers your blood pressure for a while but soon it starts to rise again. So you get more medication which helps for a while and so on.

Another problem with drugs is that many of them have potential side effects. And the more drugs you use, the more the risk for harmful side effects increases. Sadly, most people end up on medications for the rest of their life.

For most people, trying to lower your blood pressure naturally is much better than relying on drugs. For some people who have been on medication and used natural remedies, it has been possible to stop using the medication. By changing their life style and doing simple exercises they have managed to lower their blood pressure enough so that medication is not needed anymore. Note, never stop taking your medication without consulting your doctor first.

The natural remedies for hypertension are well known. The standard solutions are healthier food habits, more exercise and relaxation. Not only can the natural remedies lower your blood pressure but they have positive side effects as well. You become fitter and sleep better, just to mention two of the additional benefits.

Relaxation exercises can be everything from simple breathing exercises to advanced meditation. Just taking time to relax and breathe slowly each day has helped a lot of people to lower their blood pressure. Of course, this does not happen overnight but for many of those who have been doing a simple 15 minute breathing exercise every day amazing improvements have been noticed after just a few weeks.

If you are suffering from hypertension, it is important to start as early as possible to try to get your blood pressure down towards normal levels. The sooner you start, the easier it is to get results.

Are There Any High Blood Pressure Symptoms?

When it comes to high blood pressure symptoms virtually every one is a novice because true to its reputation as the silent killer almost everybody has no idea about HBP and some even believe it is something that is inevitable in a sense.

However, the facts and figures associated with HBP is startling if not scary. Analyzing HBP figures country by country shows that while more focus is placed on diseases like AIDS and Cancer, HBP is silently creating its on waves underneath howbeit, catching a lot of people unawares.

High Blood Pressure is also refered to as HBP.

Below are some facts that would leave anybody stunned:

In the UK, 1 in 3 adults have HBP (that is about 16million people, it could has well be classified as an epidemic if it were a disease).
The main risk factor for Stroke is HBP.
High blood pressure is a major risk factor for heart failure, heart attack and kidney failure.
More than a third of the people affect ed do not even know they have the condition because there are no overtly recognized symptoms, hence, the name "silent killer".
Anyone with HBP is three times more likely to develop heart disease and stroke and twice as likely to die from these as people with a normal blood pressure.
Over 77 % of men and 71% of women suffering from HBP are either not been treated or been controlled.
Around 62,000 people die unnecessary due to stroke and heart attacks simply because of poor BP control.
The risks increase as blood pressure rises, whether you have high blood pressure or a normal BP. Between the age of 40 and 70, for every rise of 20mmHg systolic or every 10mmHg diastolic, the risk of heart disease and stroke doubles; for the range 115/75 up to 185/115mmHg.

Hypertension and Fast Food - My Experiment With Blood Pressure Levels

As a massage therapist my schedule can be very crazy as I can burn the oil at both ends of the day. So I decided to specifically monitor both my food and sleep patterns specifically for a recent two week time span.

First, I noticed that that four of seven days I was eating "out" close to two times as day at some fast food restaurants. At the same time my coffee consumption increased by at least two cups.

Next, due to a major change in work schedule I was getting limited sleep many of those nights.

Finally, I got back into a bit of a bad habit of eating junk food, you know things like chips, chocolate bars and pop.

As rule for me, I take my blood pressure at the end of the day and first thing in the morning to see where things are at.

To put it mildly I had quite the scare one night when I took my blood pressure and it was 160/101. I was able to do some breathing exercises and brought it down to 124/84 in a fifteen minute time period.

To add insult to injury I put on close to fifteen pounds of fat in that two week time span. No wonder my blood pressure went up.

The fact that I had worked so hard over the past few years to get my blood pressure under control and blew it in two weeks got me scared, angry and refocused.

So I made some lifestyle changes to lower my blood pressure and control it once again.

I'll be honest, it is simple but not easy. I had to make some lifestyle behavior changes. Here are some of things I did:

1. Replaced some coffee with green tea or water
2. Replaced fast food with home made meals
3. Went to bed earlier
4. Gradually started exercising - light cardio
5. Significantly reduced my salt intake.

I still have the occasional coffee and have the odd night when I get less than a desirable amount of sleep I need. Also I still eat "junk" food from time to time. I am human after all. That being said my blood pressure is in control.

Both you and I know it is easy to get into some poor lifestyle habits; however it is simple but not easy not to change them.

Naturally Reduce Blood Pressure

High Blood Pressure: Blood is naturally under pressure as the heart forces it around the circulation, with hypertension the pressure is above the normal limits. There may be no symptoms with hypertension at first but over time can increase risk of disorders such as stroke, heart disease and kidney failure. High blood pressure cannot be cured but it can be reduced and controlled, often a change in diet and lifestyle may be all that is necessary to reduce blood pressure. Currently 50 million Americans have hypertension, approximately 20% of the population.

Factors of Hypertension: There are no obvious causes for hypertension, however factors that can increase the risk are.

* Sedentary Lifestyle - Increases risk of cardiovascular disease (60% of Americans do not get enough exercise).

* Genetic Factors - There are gene variants associated with increased risk of hypertension.

* Family history - Having a parent or close relative with hypertension increases your risk.

* Ethnicity - hypertension tends to affect African Americans with greater frequency.

* Obesity - Being overweight increases risk of heart disease, hypertension, and stroke.

* Alcohol - Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol can increase your risk. (More than 1 drink per day for women and 2 per day for men).

* Smoking - A major factor for developing high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease.

* High salt diet

* Age - The risk of hypertension increases with age, men tend to develop between the ages of 35 and 55, and women after menopause

Naturally Reduce Blood Pressure with Pycnogenol:

Study 1: Researchers including Dr. David Fitzpatrick of the University of South Florida and Dr. Lester Packer of the University of California, Berkley have conducted research on pycnogenol and nitric oxide, and how it naturally optimizes the levels of nitric oxide production in the blood vessels to facilitate blood flow and reduce blood pressure. It naturally helps the body produce adequate levels of nitric oxide for necessary functions, and can also reduce the levels of nitric oxide where it does harm. Pycnogenol has a mild hypotensive effect that helps prevent or reduce hypertension naturally. (Fitzpatrick et al., 1998)

Study 2: Dr Miklos and his colleagues at the Albert Szent-Gyorgyi Medical University in Szeged, Hungry and Dr. Peter Rohdewald of the University of Muenster, Germany In their study published in 1996 in the Pharmaceutical and Pharmacological Letters, described the hypotensive effect of pycnogenol as "moderate". Pycnogenol naturally helps the heart by blocking some action of the angio-tensin I converting enzyme (ACE) in causing hypertension. People with lower or normal blood pressure will not be affected and those with hypertension and too much ACE will benefit

Naturally Reduce Blood Pressure with Grape Seed Extract: Scientist for the University of California, Davis did a 4 week study on 24 patients. One group was given a placebo treatment, a second group was given 150mg of grape seed extract, and a third group was given 300mg of grape seed extract. At the end of the four week study blood pressure was reduced in all patients taking the grape seed extract, blood pressure did not change in the placebo group. On average Systolic blood pressure dropped 12 points, and the diastolic dropped 8 points. Both doses were equally efficient in naturally reducing the blood pressure. (American Chemical Society National Meeting & Exposition, Atlanta, March 26-30, 2006)

Reduce side effects of antihypertensive medications:

Study 1: A study published in a 2006 issue of the Journal of Clinical and Applied Thrombosis/Hemostasis shows that pycnogenol can naturally reduce edema by 36 percent, a common side effect of high blood pressure medications. The results of the study show pycnogenol naturally improves circulation, this avoids blood pooling and can reduce edema.

Study 2: In 2004 Dr. X. Liu confirmed that pycnogenol naturally improved the endothelial function of hypertensive patients and allowed those on antihypertensive drugs to reduce their dosage. (Life Science, 2004)

Best Source of Pycnogenol and Grape Seed Extract: A natural supplement Isotonix OPC-3 (Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins) is an isotonic-capable food supplement that is made from a combination of bilberry, grape seed extract, red wine, pine bark extracts and citrus extract bioflavonoids, all found to be potent antioxidants. Isotonix OPC-3 contains the only isotonic form of Pycnogenol in the world.

What if you could find ten to fifteen minutes a day to slow everything down to give you peace of mind, nerve control and relaxation?

Simple but not necessarily easy, is to learn how to do deep breathing. Research has shown us over and over again that deep diaphragmatic breathing is very effective at lowering high blood pressure.

This is why complimentary exercises like yoga and tai-chi are very good for stress relief as they have controlled breathing at the core of their routines.

These exercises are great if you time to take the classes; however if you don't, you can do your own deep breathing exercises at home or at work. All you need is ten to fifteen minutes a day.

You can do this lying down or sitting up in a chair. The key is for you to be comfortable. Start by breathing in for a count of two and exhaling for a count of three. As you get comfortable with this increase the breath in to a count of three and maintain exhalation at a count of three. Furthermore if you some form of relaxing music put it on a well.

Deep diaphragmatic breathing exercises alone will lower your blood pressure.

As you breathe in and out you are sending a message to the brain that "everything is alright". The brain then sends messages to both the heart and the arteries to relax and open up.

Here's the catch - you must do this on a daily basis to have long lasting effects. Each day builds a little on the previous day. You must do this breathing exercise everyday to condition the brain to send out messages to the heart and blood vessels to relax and stay wide open.

To be successful with the deep diaphragmatic breathing you need to be make the time and be consistent doing it.

You get the following benefits from deep breathing:
Avoid, reduce or even eliminate blood pressure medications and their side effects
Lower your blood pressure naturally
Experience deep sleep
Control maternal hypertension
Get lasting relief of stress and anxiety
Sleep better and wake refreshed
Enhance your mood and increase your energy for life
Improved sleep and better moods.

Finally you do not need to suffer any of the horrible side effects of hypertension medication. So take a deep breath and get started...

Will Fish Oil Remove Or Stop High Triglycerides?

Studies suggest that taking fish oil for high triglycerides is a good idea. But, it is only one of the important steps to take. Here, you will learn about the causes of high triglyceride levels and the steps it takes to correct the problem.

A triglyceride is a fat that is important for building cells, making hormones and producing energy. Like cholesterol, triglycerides are considered the cause of heart disease and other health problems, but it is also important to remember that they are necessary for good health.

If cholesterol levels are too low, there is a reduction in serotonin production, which is necessary for regulating moods. Researchers have found a link between low cholesterol levels and depression, as well as suicide. So, the goal is to balance HDL and LDL cholesterol levels, which should help lower total triglyceride levels.

The causes of dangerously high triglyceride levels include obesity, smoking, and alcohol abuse, lack of exercise, hormonal imbalances and genetics. Of course, there is nothing you can do about genetics, but that is only a factor in a relatively small number of cases.

Taking fish oil for high triglycerides may help correct hormonal imbalances and could assist in weight loss efforts, but only you could deal with the other factors. If they happen to be relevant in your case, the first steps would be to lose weight, quit smoking, limit your alcohol intake and increase your level of physical activity.

If none of those things apply, the first step is to reduce your consumption of saturated fat and cut out trans-fatty acids, completely. Preliminary research indicates that trans-fatty acids are the real problem. They are denaturalized fats that contribute to heart disease and cancer. Try to eat more natural, nutrient-rich foods.

Try to make sure that most of the fat in your daily diet is polyunsaturated. Those are good fats. The reason for recommending fish oil for high triglycerides is because of the polyunsaturated fats that it contains. Good fats perform the necessary hormonal functions, they balance molecules that would otherwise cause inflammation and they carry away "bad" or LDL cholesterol particles, returning them to the liver for reprocessing. The second step, then, is to take a good omega3 DHA-rich fish oil for high triglycerides.

The third step is for people who that know their cholesterol levels are unbalanced. There are excellent all-natural products that help to reduce the production of cholesterol in the body, reduce the absorption of it in the gastrointestinal tract, decrease circulating fats and dissolve cholesterol particles, which preventing the oxidation of the fats in the bloodstream. It is the oxidation of fats along the arterial walls that leads to age-related heart disease.

The nutrients that are proven effective for balancing cholesterol levels naturally include:

Policosanol
Theaflavins
Lecithin
Rice bran oil
D-limonene

Those can be purchased separately, but since they work best together, it is a good idea to look for a product that contains them all. And now, see my website listed below for more information on fish oil for high triglycerides.

The Easy Way to Lower Your Blood Pressure Naturally

High blood pressure, also called hypertension, is a problem that affects a lot of people. Since hypertension seldom causes any symptoms in the beginning, many are unaware of that they even have a problem. But if nothing is done, the risk of serious health problems later in life increases dramatically.

A lot of people try to ignore their hypertension problem, after all it seldom causes any symptoms in the beginning. Unfortunately, that's generally the worst solution. Very often the blood pressure just keeps on increasing, slowly but steadily, until it can not be ignored any longer. Or worse, the prolonged hypertension causes serious heart problems or stroke.

Far too often the automatic solution for hypertension is prescribed drugs. Unfortunately, many of the drugs have negative side effects. Worse, if you only rely on the drug and do not change your life style, very often your blood pressure starts to increase again after a while. The doctors increase your medication but after some time your blood pressure starts to increase again and you just get more drugs. Also, the more medication you use, the greater the risk for negative side effects.

Trying to get down towards normal values without drugs has many advantages. It's cheap for starters and the side effects are generally positive, like less stressed and getting fitter. Natural remedies can not cure everyone but it is a good starting point for most people.

The bad news is that it takes time to get results, you can't get cured overnight. But given the benefits of a normal blood pressure and a healthier life style it is well worth trying. The earlier you start the less drastic actions are needed to cure your hypertension. Note that people with severe hypertension should always consult their doctor before beginning any exercise program.

The easiest ways to naturally lower your blood pressure are by relaxing and breathing, two simple skills everyone can master. Simple exercises done every day can help most people to lower their blood pressure. But the exercises have to be done every day to get results, not just once or twice a week. Just by doing slow breathing exercises, some people have managed to get very good results. Combine it with more physical activity and healthier food habits and you could be on your way to a healthier and longer life.

Blood Pressure Medication - 5 Simple Tips to Avoid Hypertension Medication

Blood pressure medication has several side effects and I have experienced quite a few of them. If your blood pressure is hovering around 140/90 you need to make some changes to your lifestyle otherwise you will either be put on blood pressure medication or worse suffer a heart attack or stroke.

Here are five tips that will help you lower, control or eliminate hypertension.

1. Walk thirty minutes everyday. Every time you walk you cause the arteries in the limbs you are working to widen or open up. The blood vessels must do this in order to supply muscles with the appropriate nourishment to function.

The inner lining of the blood vessels release a chemical that causes the blood vessels to widen.
If you are sedentary and sitting most of the day get up when you can and move your body.

2. Limit your coffee intake to two cups a day. Caffeine causes a temporary rise in blood pressure levels 20 -40 minutes after consumption. The caffeine causes the heart to beat faster and if you sitting and not moving too much blood is pumped into the blood vessels and arteries. This leads to an increase in pressure levels within the blood vessels.

If you drink lots of coffee you are conditioning the body to be in an elevated blood pressure state. This leads to hypertension.

3. Drink a lot of water. It is very important to avoid dehydration. One thing you can do is have a cup of water every hour at work. This should give you four to six cups of water a day.

4. Significantly reduce your salt intake to be below 2400mg a day. Make sure you check food labels when grocery shopping. Look to get foods that have less than 200mg of salt peer serving. Did you know a certain famous hamburger from the golden arches has 1200mg of salt in it?

5. Replace coffee with tea or green tea. These teas have "anti-oxidant" properties and are good for blood vessel tissue health.

Start with these five solution to lower your high blood pressure naturally. These are steps you can take with out going to a health food store and spending extra money.

Although there are many herbal and other natural remedies to control or lower hypertension, it is important that you start at a basic level first. Once you have mastered these solutions you can move on to herbal remedies.

These steps may be all you need.

High Blood Pressure - Can Slow Breathing Lower Your Blood Pressure?

High blood pressure, also called hypertension, is a problem that affects a lot of people. Since hypertension seldom causes any symptoms in the beginning, many are unaware of that they even have a problem. But if nothing is done, the risk of serious health problems later in life increases dramatically.

The standard response to hypertension is medication. But for a lot of people, medication is not a good long term solution. Just relying on drugs, without changing your life style often means that your blood pressure starts rising again after some time. You get stronger medication which helps for a while but soon you are faced with an increasing blood pressure again.

For most people, trying natural remedies is a much better long term solution than medication. The most common methods are healthier food habits, more physical activity and relaxation exercises. But lately, a new way of lowering your blood pressure has become popular, slow breathing.

Research has shown that a daily 15 minute session with eight breaths per minute is an efficient way of lowering your blood pressure. Some people have got good results with less than ten breaths per minute as well. That said, you should not focus on counting your breaths, just try to breathe slowly and smoothly. For many it may take a couple of sessions to just get down to ten breaths per minute. But it is more important to keep the breathing natural, rather than trying to force the number of breaths down.

Although slow breathing has in many cases proved to be an efficient way of lowering your blood pressure, it is not a panacea. If your hypertension is caused by your life style, for example unhealthy food habits and no exercise, your best bet is to change your life style. The old rule applies; fix the cause, not the symptom.

Even though slow breathing is easy to do, it is still possible to make it wrong and not getting any positive result. Make sure that you breathe gently, trying to fill your lungs completely with air may lead to hyperventilation. This will instead raise your blood pressure. Also if you start to feel light-headed, you need to stop the exercise.

Cholesterol and Triglycerides - What You Should Know

The medical term lipid disorder refers to high blood cholesterol and triglycerides. It means that there are plenty of fatty substances in the blood such as cholesterol and triglycerides.

Cholesterol is used in the building of cell membranes and other hormones while triglycerides are chains of fatty acids that provide energy for the cells to function. Cholesterol and triglycerides may be obtained from two sources; dietary and endogenous (manufactured by the body) sources.

Around eight hours after meal, one of the functions of the liver is to get the dietary cholesterol and triglycerides from the bloodstream. If in cases where there lipids are not available, the liver produces them.

Along with other proteins, the liver packages them into tiny spheres (lipoproteins) and releases these spheres in the bloodstream for delivery to the cells. The cells will now be responsible in getting only the sufficient cholesterol and triglycerides from these tiny spheres.

The body has plenty of LDL (bad) cholesterol and few HDL (good) cholesterol; LDL means "low density lipoprotein" and HDL for "high density lipoprotein".

If the LDL level is too high, the tendency is to attach itself in the blood vessels lining which may lead to the hardening of the arteries or "atherosclerosis". As a result, the arteries will narrow or constrict to and cause high blood pressure leading to heart attack or stroke. On the other hand, the HDL cleanses the "bad" cholesterol that was removed from the blood vessels for dispatch again to the liver for another processing.

Concerning triglycerides, the standard level is the same with the other blood lipid level due to the absence of further medical studies. However, It was noted that if the triglycerides are higher, the HDL cholesterol is lower. Also, there are recent evidences that link high triglyceride level to heart disease.

Causes of High Cholesterol

High cholesterol can be due to poor diet, heredity, sedentary lifestyle, obesity, gender and age. Women undergoing premenopausal stage have low cholesterol level than men. Also, it may be the offshoot of other medical conditions like hypothyroidism (low thyroid), diabetes, chronic kidney failure, obstructive liver disease or the use of drugs such as progesterone, anabolic steroids and corticosteroids.

Moreover, the cholesterol level is affected by high blood pressure, cigarette smoking, men above 45 years old, more than 55 years old for women and the medical term "10-year" risk of heart attack.

Below are the standard measurements of ideal cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

1. Total cholesterol--Desirable level is below 200mg/dl and high risk level is above 240 mg/dl.

2. LDL cholesterol--Optimum level is less than 100 mg/dl. High risk level between 160 and 189 mg/dl. Considered very high risk if 190 mg/dl and above.

3. HDL cholesterol--Below 41 mg/dl is considered too low.

4. Triglyceride--Normal is less than 150 mg/dl. High levels are from 200 mg/dl to 499 mg/dl. Very high is greater than 500 mg/dl.

Treatment of High Cholesterol and Triglyceride

Under ordinary circumstances, high cholesterol and triglyceride are treated with exercise, weight loss and diet. Diet includes more starch and fiber, low cholesterol, low total fat and low saturated fat. Recommended exercise is at least 20 minutes of daily aerobic activity.

If no further results are obtained, this may result to medications such as statins, bile acid binding resins, niacin, fibric acid derivatives, antihyperlipidemic agents or combinations, platelet aggregation inhibitors or cholesterol absorption inhibitors.

A visit to the doctor between the ages of 20 to 30 is a good head start to have your cholesterol and triglyceride levels checked.

High Blood Pressure Reduction Solutions - Is Diet, Exercise and Weight Loss Enough?

Do you have high blood pressure or doctor diagnosed hypertension? If you do I want to share with you my unique discovery about lowering blood pressure naturally with out the use of hypertension medication. Both you know and know that the true cause of high blood pressure is not known; it is quite obvious that that both the medical and pharmaceutical companies know how to treat the symptoms through a prescription for medication.

Next most "natural" solutions to controlling, reducing or eliminating this condition involve lifestyle changes. This include but would not be limited to diet and exercise. The benefits to good eating habits and exercise are numerous. Obviously one of the by products is weight loss. Well really what I mean is fat loss because it is the fat you truly want lose.

The exercise forces the heart to beat less but with more strength and the good diet prevents plaque build up along the arteries. Exercise may also help with building muscle and that in itself will help to burn off excess fat. So between diet and exercise you lose fat, build muscle and have more energy. What if your blood pressure is still too high? What do you do now?

Take a deep breath and relax. What ever you do keep your cool things will work out.

I went through this period of frustration and finally discovered that my high blood pressure was in part to do with my internalization of stress. For example, many years ago when I was in high school my father was diagnosed with colon cancer. I thought I had things under control until I got very sick a day or two later. Fortunate for us he survived it was able to live for another twenty five years.

My point here is that you may be holding your stress in your body with out knowing it and it shows up as high blood pressure. Yes you may think this is little bit "out there" but take a quick look at your surrounding environment. Are you happy with where you are? Are you happy in your work or relationships?

So you might be losing weight, feeling energetic and strong. This is a good start. Your next step is to clarify your thoughts and feelings as they do have a strong influence on your blood pressure levels.

For example I know my blood pressure levels used to spike anytime I got angry. I discovered this by accident after going through a nasty e-mail exchange with a friend mine. I just happened to realize that I had lost my cool and after I fired that last e-mail back I took my blood pressure. It jumped from 120/82 to 165/ 93 in very short period of time.

My solution was and still is deep breathing exercises. It is simply amazing the drop in blood pressure I receive after going through 10 to 15 minutes of deep breathing relaxation exercises with music!

I do include some visualization with this breathing technique with music. This made the process more enjoyable. I simply pictured the heart pumping blood through open and wide arteries. It worked for me.

I use this little technique when I get into stressful situations and it helps me keep peace of mind.

All I do is breathe in for three and breathe out for three. When I do this I have a saying that I repeat to myself: "arteries open wide, blood moving freely". At the same time I picture my heart pumping blood to very wide and open blood vessels. It may be corny to you but it works for me. Give it a try. What do you to have to lose?
