Hypertension, most commonly referred to as "high blood pressure", HTN or HPN, is a medical condition in which the blood pressure is chronically elevated. It was previously referred to as arterial hypertension, but in current usage, the word "hypertension" without a qualifier normally refers to arterial hypertension.

Blood Pressure - The Basics

blood pressure (BP) is defined as the force in the arteries when the heart beats (systolic pressure) and when the heart between beats (diastolic pressure). It is measured in millimeters of mercury (mm Hg). The measurement is on or before the other, with the number on the systolic and the diastolic number on the bottom.

hypertension, is in an adult as a blood pressure greater than or equal to 140 mmHg systolic pressure or greater than or equal to 90 mmHg diastolic pressure.

increased pressure in the blood vessels directly increases the risk of heart attack, heart disease and stroke.

hypertension may occur in children or adults, but it is more common in people over the 35th It is primarily in blacks, middle-aged and elderly people, obese people, heavy drinkers and women who are at the birth of the contraceptive pill. It may be present in families, but many people with a strong family never have hypertension. People with diabetes mellitus, gout or kidney disease are also more likely to have hypertension.

Some people can have high blood pressure years without knowing it. The only way to know if you have high blood pressure is that your BP checked. According to recent estimates, one quarter of U.S. adults has high blood pressure, but there are no symptoms, nearly one third of these people do not even know they have it. This is why high BP is often called the "silent killer".

a single reading of high blood pressure does not mean you have hypertension, but it is a sign that you need to make them carefully. High blood pressure is usually only diagnosed after consistent or consecutive high readings.

If your bp is normal, it at least every two years. If your blood pressure is near the top of the normal range, or if you have a family history of high blood pressure, you are at higher risk. Your doctor will tell you how many times have you there.

They are just a heartbeat away from the past.

Michael Wolfe Grafstein is a registered massage therapist who discovered he had the "silent killer" hypertension by receiving two electrical shocks that ran from his left hand through to his left chest twice within a fifteen minute time period. He feels very lucky to be alive today. He has suffered the consequences of side effects of blood pressure medication and has discovered a way to lower high blood pressure with out the side effects of hypertension medication naturally.
