Blood pressure is a biophysical phenomenon. Blood pressure is the pressure of blood in the arteries each time the heart beats. Blood pressure during pumping is highest and is called as systolic blood pressure and blood pressure during the rest is low and is called as diastolic blood pressure. High blood pressure (Hypertension) leads to Heart attacks and heart attack is the leading cause of death in the world. Vast study is on in the field of anti-hypertensive medicine. Many hypertensive patients and their relatives are unaware about certain properties of hypertensive medicines. Some of the important facts about the anti-hypertensive medicines are given here. Read these properly:

1. In a review by Nadia Khan and colleagues in the University of British Columbia, they have demonstrated that beta-blockers (Propranolol, Esmolol) should not be taken as the first line therapy for older patients with hypertension.

2. In a study by Chihiro Shikata and colleagues published in the journal "Experimental and Clinical Cardiology", they have shown that use of several anti-hypertensive drugs is helpful in the good control of hypertension (with the advice of the physician).

3. It was believed that inflammation can cause arterial hypertension. In a review article by Matthias Hermann and colleagues, they have written that novel anti-inflammatory treatment strategies may provide benefit for patients.

4. In a study by B. M. Psaty and colleagues, they have shown that diuretics can be used as first line therapy in low doses.

5. It must be remembered that blood pressure of 140/90 or higher is considered as a high blood pressure.
